- June 2009: Marina Alberti and Lucy Hutyra presented “Detecting Carbon Signatures of Development Patterns across a Gradient of Urbanization: Linking Observations, Models, and Scenarios”at the Urban Research Symposium 2009 on Cities and Climate Change: Responding to an Urgent Agenda, Marseille, France.
- June 2009: Lucy Hutyra presented a poster on UERL research at the Workshop on Land Use/Land Cover Change and the Carbon Cycle, Ann Arbor, Michigan.
- April 2009 – Marina Alberti presented "Urbanization patterns and carbon fluxes: A coupled human-natural system approach to study process and mechanisms” at the US-International Association for Landscape Ecology (IALE) symposium on Coupling Humans and Complex Ecological Landscapes, Salt Lake City, UT.

- January 2009: Lucy Hutyra started the new year by traveling to Khon Kaen, Thailand to present "Validation of ecosystem carbon exchange estimates" at a workshop on on monsoon Asia tropical forest dynamics and sustainability.
- December 2008: Lucy Hutyra presented "Biodiversity in human dominated landscape: An urban ecology perspective," at the 9th national conference on science, policy, and the environment in Washington, D.C.: Biodiversity in a Rapidly Changing World.
- May 2008: Marina Alberti gave a presentation and led the discussion at the Environmental Science Colloquium for the UCLA Institute of the Environment.
- May 2008: Marina Alberti presented the Puget Sound Scenarios Project final report for the Puget Sound Nearshore Partnership.
- May 2008: Lucy Hutyra presented a paper at the Western Division American Fisheries Symposium in Portland Oregon, addressing "Impacts of Alternative Development Patterns on Aquatic Ecosystems: Evidence from the Puget Sound Lowland Sub-basins."
- April 2008: Marina Alberti was a Key Speaker at the international Resilience 2008 Conference: Resilience, Adaption and Transformation in Turbulent Times in Stockholm Sweden from April 14-17, with her presentation, "Criticality and Resilience in Urban Ecosystems."
- April: Lucy Hutyra and Steve Walters both gave presentations at the International Association of Landscape Ecology (IALE) Symposium: Landscape Patterns and Ecosystem Processes, in Madison, Wisconsin. Lucy's presentation was titled: "Discontinuities, Criticality, and Resiilience in Urban Landscapes," and Steve's: "Landscape Patterns and Ecosystem Processes."
- March 26: Daniele Spriandelli presented a review of UERL research on "Land Cover Change in the Puget Sound" at the South Sound Science Symposium in Olympia, Washington.
- January 10: Marina Alberti, gave the keynote address at the CAP-LTER Symposium in Phoenix, Arizona, with a presentation on "Complexity, Reslience, and Uncertainty in Urban Ecosystems: Linking Observations, Models, and Scenarios."
